Combating prohibited events – dogfighting & cockfighting

Chief Inspector Daniel Young (view profile)

Dogfighting and cockfighting – you may easily be mistaken and think that these barbaric events only take place overseas or died out many years ago. But the sobering truth is, they haven’t. RSPCA Qld has been aware for a long time that cockfighting is prevalent in many areas, but has struggled to capture the true extent of dogfighting.

However, recently we have seen some promising results! During this session we will look at what are prohibited events under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001, what we are currently doing to combat dogfighting and cockfighting, what the challenges associated with seizing animals used for these purposes are, while getting a glimpse of these horrific activities through the eyes of an RSPCA Qld inspector.
